Sci-Fi Jubilee 6th Anniversary!

I’m very happy to say my blog Sci-Fi Jubilee has now reached its 6th anniversary! Wow, this last year seems to have flown by so fast as well! Needless to say I’ve have had a brilliant time writing this blog over the last six years, writing countless TV, film, and comic book reviews and articles from a wealth of different genres – especially when it comes to Doctor Who and Comic Books – which I real love writing about!

But of course, Sci-Fi Jubilee wouldn’t by anything without any of you! I always look at these anniversary posts as a way to say a big thank you to each and every one of you for reading and following my blog. You have always been so kind and generous, especially when I fell ill with a chest infection earlier this year, and you have constantly given me so much amazing support via your comments on my blog, nominating Sci-Fi Jubilee for blog awards, and sharing my reviews on Twitter, WordPress, and Sci-Fi Jubilee’s Facebook page.

Thanks to you my YouTube Channel is now a key feature on the blog as well. I really enjoyed doing the walkthroughs and videos I’ve done for Infamous Second Son, Monster Hunter World, and God of War (PS4). The channel continues to grow and I want to thank you all for your subscriptions, comments, and words of encouragement that has made the YouTube Channel such a fun and welcome addition to Sci-Fi Jubilee.

You know when I started this blog I never could’ve imagined that Sci-Fi Jubilee would go on to become as big a part of my life as it has, and I can’t thank you enough for that. Most of all though it is your feedback and support that makes Sci-Fi Jubilee and blogging feel so enjoyable and special to me. Sci-Fi Jubilee has grown so much over the last six years, its given me some amazing opportunities, enabled me to write on other websites and projects, and its all thanks to you! Cheers for all your awesome support everyone, and here’s to another fun year of reviews on Sci-Fi Jubilee and walkthroughs on my YouTube Channel in the year ahead!

Sci-Fi Jubilee My YouTube Channel Infamous Second Son

Hello everyone, and thanks for checking out my YouTube Channel! I’ve been enjoying the summer months so not done many videos or walkthroughs for a bit. I’ve just started Infamous Second Son recently; it was free on Playstation Plus this month, so as I’ve never played it before I thought it’d be a good game to stream for my channel.

Infamous Second Son is the third game – or fourth if you count Infamous: Festival of Blood – in the Infamous franchise. The game is a sequel to Infamous and Infamous 2, two great games that I really enjoyed. Infamous Second Son is set in Seattle and takes place seven years after Infamous 2, where the Department of Unified Protection is capturing super-powered people known as Conduits. While Infamous and Infamous 2 featured Cole McGrath, Infamous Second Son features a new protagonist called Delsin Rowe who gains the power to absorb the abilities of other Conduits. As with all Infamous games the decision-making Karma feature plays a key role in shaping the games story, cut scenes, Delsin’s appearance, and the endings.

Here’s my playlist so far for Infamous Second Son

I’m really enjoying Infamous Second Son, some aspects of the game do seem a little dated now, but it looks great, its fun to play, the combat and controls are easy to master, and the storyline is action-packed. There are plenty of side missions to do as well. This is one game I always meant to check out, but for one reason or another I never did, so I’m glad I’ve finally got around to playing it. I’ll stream some more glameplay videos as I work my way through Infamous Second Son, please feel free to like and subscribe if you enjoy them, and thank you all so much for your continued support of Sci-Fi Jubilee and my YouTube Channel.

Sci-Fi Jubilee 5th Anniversary

My blog Sci-Fi Jubilee has reached its 5th anniversary! This year seems to have flown by so quickly as well! I’ve have had a fantastic time writing this blog over the last five years, covering a wide variety of TV, film, and comic book reviews and articles from numerous subjects and genres that I enjoy most – especially when it comes to Doctor Who, The Walking Dead, and comic books – which I absolutely love writing about!

Of course, though, Sci-Fi Jubilee would be nothing without all of you! So, I’d like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everybody out there for reading and following my blog. You are always so generous and kind, and give me so much awesome support through commenting on my blog nominating me for blog awards, and sharing my reviews on Twitter, WordPress, and Sci-Fi Jubilee’s Facebook page. My new YouTube Channel has also become a major feature on the blog now as well, the walkthroughs I did for The Return to Arkham Collection and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard were really fun to do, and I can’t thank you enough for all of your subscriptions, comments, and encouragement that has continued to make the YouTube Channel feel such a welcome addition to Sci-Fi Jubilee. When I first started out with this blog, I never dreamed Sci-Fi Jubilee would become such a huge part of my life as it has. But most importantly it is your feedback that make Sci-Fi Jubilee and blogging so enjoyable for me. Sci-Fi Jubilee has evolved so much over the last five years, I also write for other websites now too, and I look forward to doing some more walkthroughs on my YouTube Channel in the future. Cheers for all your amazing support everyone, and here’s to another brilliant year!

Sci-Fi Jubilee My YouTube Channel Horizon Zero Dawn

Thanks for checking out my YouTube Channel everyone! After having a short break from walkthrough videos because I’ve been busy reviewing some of the latest comic books and films recently, I thought I’d check out the new PS4 game Horizon Zero Dawn. It’s a great game where you play as Aloy, a young female warrior in a lush, post apocalyptic world where nature has reclaimed the ruins of a long forgotten civilization, and pockets of humanity live on in primitive hunter gatherer tribes. Their dominion over this new wilderness has been usurped by the machines – fearsome mechanical creatures of unknown origin!

I’m really enjoying playing Horizon Zero Dawn, there’s a vast open world to explore, and I’ve become completely engrossed by the storyline and the characters. Gameplay is also excellent and the controls are easy to master. Overall there’s a great mix of all-out action, stealth, weapons, traps, and skill crafting, and the graphics are amazing!

This video I’ve edited together features the a scene where Aloy helps destroy a “Demon”, a fearsome Corruptor machine, along with the Corrupted machines it leads in an attack on the sanctuary of Mother Heart. It’s a really action-packed moment in the early stages of the story, I think it gives you a good sense of what the game is like, and the graphics are stunning. After the battle we also see how Aloy can use the override device from the Corruptor to control some of the machines herself, and even turn one into a trusty steed for her journey.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a huge game, so I might not do walkthroughs for it, but I’ll probably post some more gameplay videos on my YouTube Channel as I play through the game. Please feel free to like, share, and subscribe if you enjoy them, and thank you once again for all your amazing support for Sci-Fi Jubilee and my YouTube Channel!

Aliens / Vampirella #1 Review

Aliens / Vampirella #1

Review by Paul Bowler

When it comes to attention grabbing comic book titles, Aliens / Vampirella #1 with its eye catching cover by Gabriel Hardman, instantly screams out to be read if you are a fan of either Vampirella or the Aliens franchise. Humans have set up a base on Mars, where they have discovered an ancient mystery underground. Vampirella has been sent to help the crew investigate, but it soon becomes apparent monstrous creatures await them in the shadows deep below the surface, horrors that should never have been disturbed…

Aliens / Vampirella #1, is a brand new six part series from Dynamite, by writer Corinna Bechko, featuring art by Javier Garcia-Miranda, and colors by In LIGHT Studios, certainly has a very interesting premise.

There is a lot of potential here; the tantalizing idea of having a character like Vampirella squaring off against the acid-blooded Xenomorphs on Mars is certainly appealing. Corinna Bechko gets things off to a good start with a fittingly blood-drenched, acid-splattering, flashback that quickly established past events. From here, the pace slows somewhat as we flash-forward to Vamperilla’s arrival on Mars, where she meets the crew of Mars Base One, and learns that the base they’ve found beneath the surface could well be tens of thousands of years old.

Aliens Vampi 1CovAHardman

The familiar themes of the Aliens franchise are all present and correct, there’s a group of humans on a distant world, lots of dark spooky corridors to wander down, and even a chamber full of rather gooey looking eggs. Yes, you know the drill. While it ticks all the boxes, this issue first doesn’t really do anything new with these tried-and-trusted themes. Sure, it sets the scene well enough, but even the crew seem indistinguishable from what we’ve seen many times before, and Vampirella gets no real chance to put her abilities to much use either.

Javier Garcia-Miranda’s art is really good, all the characters are well rendered, and Vampirella looks stunning. However, it’s the flashback at the beginning where Javier Garcia-Miranda’s art really stands out, as we witness the full savagery of the Xenomorph in action. The detail in these pages is phenomenal, and the raw power and brutality of Alien is captured perfectly. Once we flash-forward to the Mars base its all cool metallic corridors, with some wandering around, before Vampirella and the team descends into the underground base where dark shadows, long-dead corpses encased in the walls, and a slimy Alien egg chamber await them. Colorist In LIGHT Studios really shines here in these underground scenes, where the blackness is punctuated by flickering torch beams, and cool blue and green hues heighten the tension even further

Fortunately, after a rather mundane mid-section, this first issue gradually builds to a blood-splattered climax. Corinna Bechko uses some ingenious plot twists here, particularly an unsettling face hugger experience / vision that provides us with further clues about what happened, and the closing moments are both shockingly visceral and violent.

Vampirella fighting the Xenomorphs is an uncanny mash-up of themes and ideas. The Aliens franchise has always had strong female lead characters, so Vampirella is a perfect choice to battle the Xenomorphs. Although Aliens / Vampirella #1 gets a bit bogged down with too much exposition initially, it does begin to measure up to the potential of its premise towards the end of the issue. Corinna Bechko and Javier Garcia-Miranda have done a great job with issue #1, but future issues of this Dynamite mini-series will need to be a bit less formulaic where the Aliens are concerned and make a lot more use of Vampirella if it is to really impress.
